Style 1900 Magazine's Fall 2010 features our embossed copper hood, backsplash and chandelier on the front cover, all inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright's "Darwin Martin House". Other items included in the article are backsplashes embossed with a forest and a swooping fireplace hood that incorporates a Japanesque repoussé of gnarly wind blown Torrey Pine trees and a swift in flight by Laurie C., our amazing repoussé artist.

Here's a hammered copper chandelier that we recently designed and built for some clients. The design revolves around thirds, sixths, nines, twelfths, etc. It features a Tiffany style shade made by Theodore Ellison Studios and blown glass jewels by Evan Chambers of Pavonine Glass, both custom made for this project. This image shows the progression from my original sketch to computer model to finish piece.

More Honey Bees!

16 beehives arrived today from Bear Mountain Honey. At approx. 30,000-50,000 bees per hive= lots of bees. Including the other hives already on the property in barns and hollow trees, we've probably got a million bees on the farm. Kim Vander Sys (in the bee biz since he bought his first hive from Sears & Roebuck at 9) and his apprentice, Ronny brought them out early in the morning before the air got warm and the before the bees got too cranky.

In 2007 we began work on the Bristling Boar Pub. Here are a few shots from the Halloween 2007.

Burning Man Temple 2009

Here's a shot of the roaring flames of the "burning of the temple", which is something like a memory pyre, covered by Burning Man attendees with scribbled names, photographs, poetry, thoughts and mementos of lost loved ones. Thousands stood in a solemn ring around it in near silence for about a half hour. Then a small band of musicians and singers began to walk along the edge of the crowd, playing a simple thoughtful tune. After the fire had pulled the structure to the ground and the heat began to dissipate, the fire guards let the cheering crowds surge towards the glowing mass. It was eerily beautiful to watch the small fire tornados spin away from the fire, one after another, and dissolve into the night amidst a snowstorm of sparks and cinders. It made me think that maybe a bit of the sadness of loss was somehow released in the act of giving each memory to the burning temple.

Raygun Gothic Rocket

I took this picture at Burning Man last summer, the rocket and launch pad were amazingly crafted. Here's the wonderfully retro raygun rocket website. The website itself is a work of art, great attention to detail. These are the same folks that created the Steampunk Treehouse a few years back, which is being permanently installed at the Dogfish Brewery in Delaware.

Last year we added a layer of pirate crust. This year we're polishing the crust and rusting and riveting. Many special surprises for those lucky travelers that dock at The Boar this year.

Last Halloween we added a layer of pirate crust to the Bristling Boar, including a 35' pirate ship, rusty cannon, wall of crates and many interior details to the pub.

The ship was built on an old fifth wheel trailer in 4 days. Everything was made from junk we had here at the Archive Designs farm.
